Andrew's Sahara Trek in aid of Children's Emergency Care
Andrew Harris
My Story
The Trust are going to be building a new children’s Emergency area within A & E and I would like to be part of this exciting new project so to help raise funds, I have decided to undertake the Sahara Trek in February 2024 via the RD&E Charity.
I will be self-funding the trip and all expenses myself so all money donated goes straight to the charity.
Both of my sons have been cared for on the children’s ward at the RD&E Hospital and I am forever grateful for the fantastic treatment they received.
The charity have been asked to fund the interior aspect of the build by providing a welcoming space for younger patients needing urgent medical care.
It will mean children and young people will no longer have to sit alongside adults in an often-cramped waiting room at what can be a scary and upsetting time for families.
It will have a separate reception and larger waiting area, with colourful wall art, bespoke comfortable seating and ‘sky’ ceiling panels, as well as child-friendly interactive equipment.
The challenge is to trek through the ever-changing landscape of the Sahara desert. The days will be hot and the trekking will be tough but we'll experience the remoteness and solitude that the world's largest desert brings.
If you have needed to use the services of the RD&E Hospital then you will know how kind, caring and professional the staff are and nothing is too much for them. Even if you haven't please donate to this cause, you will be helping to make a big difference for children receiving emergency care.
Thank you very much!!
