Ben Horne’s ‘4 in 2 months’ challenge for Exeter Plastic Surgery

My Story
Where to start...
I was diagnosed with Absence Epilepsy at 15 in 2005, over the years it's been fairly well controlled for the most part bar a few bumps in the road. In 2019 I began having seizures in my sleep which was something new to me. Unfortunately during one of these seizures my dog, who had been my best friend for 10 years since a puppy, in his panic did major damage to my face but ironically saved my life.
The result was the loss of my nose and extensive loss of lip, chin & jaw tissue.
I opted for reconstructive surgery as wearing a prosthetic was not something I could see myself living with. I began surgery at Bristol Southmead, however after around 5 or 6 surgeries, my surgeon retired from NHS to go private only. I was devastated, after operations being delayed months and even years due to covid, I felt like giving up on it all and was close to it. That's when Exeter Hospital stepped in and more specifically, Mr Rymer and his team. They were incredible from the first meeting and have continued the surgeries to an amazing standard.
That's why I've decided to take on this challenge in the hopes of raising some money as my way of saying thank you for all they've done and continue to do, for me and others like me.
The challenges I'll be doing are:
August 3rd - South West Coast Ultra Challenge
August 10th - Tough Mudder South West
September 7th - Tough Mudder Birmingham
September 14th - Thames Path Ultra Challenge
Proceeds will be going to Exeter Plastic Surgery. Any and all donations hugely appreciated
