My Story
Hello, My name is Reuben. Given slightly different circumstances, there was a chance that I wouldn’t be able to write this! On 7th November 2025, I suffered a Stroke. Due to the immediate action of my wonderful wife Amanda, I was blue lighted to North Devon District Hospital. I was taken straight into Resuscitation. The Critical Care team whose responsibility was to look after me, explained to my wife that I was gravely ill. She was told that she should prepare for the worst. I was so close to not being here today.
I was admitted to Staple's Ward which is the Stroke Ward. The care I received from the Nurses, Doctors, Health care Assistants and Domestic Staff was both outstanding and professional. I felt that they truly cared about my recovery and exceeded my expectations. I was there for nearly a week, not being able to walk or really do anything for myself. It was a truly frightening experience. Fast forward to today, it seems like a different story. I am recovering so well. I am up and about, my mobility is improving all the time. My cognitive function and fine motor skills are also greatly improved.
I have decided to give something back, to show my gratitude in some way. I am going to beat the Berry Beast Abseil on 1st August 2026. An 180 Feet straight drop down a sheer cliff face! I have asked the Royal Devon Hospital's Charity, that if every penny I can raise, could go directly to the Staple's Ward. Helping to contribute towards buying vital medical supplies, new machines, monitors or anything else which would benefit the Staff and patients.
Please, Please give as generously as you can, in the knowledge that people are going to directly benefit from your kind donation. I have personally been a patient there and would be exceptionally grateful .
Thank you for reading 🙂
